In Wednesday December 11th 2019 I arrived at Hail, Saudi Arabia after a 10 hour drive from Dammam, I’m went there to photograph stories & deliver photos. 1st morning I woke up early & headed to the heritage markets to deliver a couple of printed photos, Luckily I’m met 2 out of 3 people and they were so happy to see their photos in prints. And I can’t forget how Abu Majed is crashing the cardamom the old way which is essential for making Arabian coffee

في يوم الأربعاء ١١ ديسمبر ٢٠١٩ وصلت إلى حائل بعد قيادة ١٠ ساعات على الطريق من الدمام، ذهبت إلى هناك للتصوير، تسليم صور وكتابة قصص. الصباح الأول استيقظت مبكراً وتوجهت للأسواق الشعبية لتسليم صور وإلتقيت بإثنين من أصل ثلاثة وكانوا سعداء جداً لرؤية صورهم مطبوعة. ولا أنسى صوت طحن الهيل بالطريقة التقليدية من أبوماجد وهو يقوم بتحضير القهوة العربية الأصيلة في الصباح الباكر!

And I can’t forget how Abu Majed (1st photo) is crashing the cardamom the old way which is essential for making Arabian coffee, he insists I sit & relax while he gets the coffee ready.

ولا أنسى صوت طحن الهيل بالطريقة التقليدية من أبوماجد (الصورة الأولى) وهو يقوم بتحضير القهوة العربية الأصيلة في الصباح الباكر، وقد أصر علي الانتظار حتى تجهز القهوة.

2nd Day I woke up super early & headed straight to the location of the weekly Friday Market and it a very cold day, I arrived there before sunset although it was a bit crowded with people & they didn’t care about the darkness because some of them were using the flash light in their mobile phone.

اليوم الثاني استيقظت مبكراً جداً وغادرت مباشرة إلى موقع سوق الجمعة الأسبوعي وكان يوماُ بارداً جداً، وصلت هناك قبل شروق الشمس وعلى الرغم من الظلام الدامس إلا أن الحركة كانت شبه كثيفة والاغلب كان يستخدم اضاءة الفلاش من جواله المتنقل.

After the sun came up the market become even more crowded & mostly in the birds and animal section, the markets lasts until the call for AlJuma’ah Prayer

بعد ارتفاع الشمس قليلاً أصبح السوق كثيفاً جداً بالناس والأغلب متمركز لقسم الطيور والحيوانات، السوق يستمر إلى ما قبل اذان صلاة الجمعة.

Of course the people of Hail are welcoming to any stranger who visits the city and as an example I stumbled over a group of men who were eating a traditional local meal with red tea & Arabian coffee, they didn’t mind me eating with them at all

بالطبع أهل حائل كرماء ويرحبون بأي شخص وكان ذلك مثالاً مع مجموعة من الرجال الذي كانوا يفطرون بطبق شعبي بسيط مع القهوة العربية والشاي الأحمر ولم يمانعوا مشاركتي معهم.

Last day at Hail was a bit quick, I woke up in the morning and returned to the Heritage Market and there I met Abu Bander who welcomed me to his shop, we chatted for over half an hour before I started taking photos for him, after that I hit the road back home and In the highway after leaving Hail I was enjoying the scenes of the mountains faraway when I noticed a shepherd on the horizon.

اليوم الأخير في حائل كان سريعاً إلى حداً ما، قمت بالصباح بزيارة مصانع الدلال والتصوير عند أحد المحلات الموجودة وهناك كان أبوبندر متواجداً بمحله واستقبلني بكل رحب وبدأت الحديث معه لحوالي نصف ساعة قبل أن أقوم بإلتقاط عدة صور له داخل المحل، بعد ذلك إنطلقت عائداً إلى الدمام وفي الطريق السريع بعد خروجي من حائل كنت استمتع بمناظر الجبال البعيدة التي تتميز بها عندما لمحت راعي للإبل على خط الأفق.

It wasn’t the best trip but I got out with some really good results that I will share later, plus this is the first time I add video content to any blogs, I hope it makes a good impression! Thank you for reading & visiting.
