العم علي بن محمد آل عبدالله والمعروف بإسم بن سروان من سكان مدينة نجران جنوب السعودية يعمل في مهنة الخياطة وبالتحديد خياطة الزي النجراني التراثي الرجالي والنسائي ويقع محله الصغير بالقرب من سوق الجنابي الشعبي

Ali bin Mohammad Al Abdullah also known as Bin Sirwan from Najran city South of Saudi works as a tailor specially for the traditional clothing in Najran and his small shop is located near AlJanabi Market

امتهن العم علي هذه المهنة لأكثر من ٦٠ سنة وقد ورثها عن والده ووالدته بجانب أخواته في ذلك الوقت

Uncle Ali has worked as a tailor for over 60 years saying that he inherited this profession from his father & mother along side his sisters at that time

يقوم العم علي بحياكة الزي النجراني الرجالي والتي تسمى المزندة والمذيل وأما الزي النسائي يسمى المكممة والمعضد، الخياطة كما يصفها العم علي إما بشكل يدوي أو بإستخدام ماكينة الخياطة حيث يقوم بخياطة زي رجالي بالكامل خلال أسبوع إذا قام بالعمل بشكل يدوي بالكامل ولكنه يمكن الانتهاء منه خلال ساعات إذا استخدم الماكينة

Uncle Ali makes different kind of traditional clothing known in Najran history for both men & women and each cloth has a different name, and he describes that it can be sewed manually by a needle or by the sewing machine also adding if he used the manual way it can take up to a whole week to finish one adult traditional cloth and only needs a few hours if he used the sewing machine

يذكر العم علي أن الخياطة اليدوية عمرها أطول وجودتها أفضل لذ لا يزال عليها الطلب بشكل مستمر خصوصاً أن شهرة العم علي منتشرة بين أبناء المنطقة نظراً لتميز خياطته قديماً في التطريز بدقة عالية، لدى العم عدد من الأبناء والبنات وذكر أنه أحد أولاده يحب هذه المهنة ويقوم التعلم بشكل مستمر منه على الرغم من مجال دراسته في التمريض.

Uncle Ali mentioned that if done manually the quality & the life time of the cloth is very high that’s way they are still in demand specially because of his old reputation among the residence of Najran city in his detailed work on the cloth, Uncle Ali has one of his kids who is currently studying to be a nurse and like to learn sewing from time to time so he can inherit the profession of his family.

Camel Market in Najran – 2nd visit

In my 2 weeks road trip to the south of Saudi Arabia I’ve visited Najran and got back to the Camel Market which I published post for my visit back in 2018, only to be surprised that the market have been moved to a new location which is 45 min away by the car from the original location, the good thing I’ve reached the market early on so I can reach it easily early morning for the morning auction & market, when I arrived to the auction site I was shooting with 2 cameras which is something I rarely do, I had my x100s on my neck all the time, and have the 5Diii on my wrist switching lenses between the 24mm & 85mm depending on the scene, it was tough but rewarding! like always I don’t publish all the photos just a handful of them.

في رحلتي البرية التي امتدت إسبوعين في جنوب السعودية قمت بزيارة نجران والعودة إلى سوق الإبل والذي قمت بنشر تدوينة عن زيارتي لهذا السوق في عام ٢٠١٨، تفاجأت بأن السوق قد تم تغيير مكانه ونقله إلى موقع يبعد قرابة ٤٥ دقيقة بالسيارة من الموقع القديم، الأمر الجيد أنني استطعت الوصول للسوق في وقت مبكر من رحلتي لكي أستطيع الوصول بسهولة في الصباح الباكر وقت حراج الإبل، عندما وصلت هناك كنت أقوم بالتصوير بكاميرتين وهو ما أقوم به نادراً، كانت الفوجي اكس ١٠٠ على رقبتي معلقة والكانون فايف دي مربوطة على ساعد يدي وأقوم بالتبديل بين عدستين ٢٤مم و٨٥مم اعتمادً على المشهد، كان الأمر شاقاً ولكن مجزي! كالعادة أقوم بنشر بعض النتائج وليس جميعها.

The Young Shepherd – Jazan

In my 2 days visit to AlHudaihedah village in AlHasher mountains south of Saudi Arabia I had the chance to see a young shepherd in the farm nearby.

في زيارتي التي استمرت يومين كاملين في قرية الهديهدة في جبال الحشر جنوب المملكة كانت لدي فرصة لرؤية راعي الأغنام الصغير في احدى المزارع المجاورة.

Historical mountain village – Jazan

In my road trip in Feb 2022 I visited Jazan Region south of Saudi Arabia specially to visit AlHudaihedah village in AlHasher mountains which is a coffee farm & a historical house which is 450 years old according to experts owned by Salman AlHureisi Abu Sari which I already wrote about here, because I spent 2 full days there I had the chance to photograph the historical part from different angles through out the day so I thought of showing it in a solo blog post.

في رحلتي التي كانت في فبراير ٢٠٢٢ قمت بزيارة منطقة جازان جنوب السعودية خصيصاً للذهاب إلى قرية الهديهدة في جبال الحشر وهي عبارة عن مزرعة لزراعة البن الخولاني السعودي وتحتوي على منزل تاريخي يقدر عمره ٤٥٠ عاماً حسب تقدير الخبراء وصاحبها هو سلمان الحريصي أبوساري وقد كتبت عنه سابقاً هنا، لأنني أمضيت يومين كاملين هناك كانت لدي الفرصة بأن أقوم بتصوير القرية من عدة زوايا وفي أوقات مختلفة طوال اليوم لذا قررت تخصيص تدوينة مستقلة لعرض هذه الصور.

في باطن سوق العجيبة في مدينة بريدة كانت هناك ورشة صغيرة جداُ لا يتجاوز عرضها مترين وكان صاحبها هو علي محمد الطامي ابوعمر الذي اتخذ مهنة إصلاح الأجهزة الكهربائية المنزلية والهواتف منذ عقود

In the heart of the central market of Buraydah city is a very small workshop which isn’t wider then 2 meters, the owner Ali Mohammad AlTami (Abu Omar) which he took a career in repairing home appliances & telephone for decades

I had quick visit in Madinah west of Saudi Arabia with the family for couple of days, and it was a good chance to photograph & deliver a printed photo and because I took most of the time searching for the person I photographed I only took a few shots along the way.

كانت لدي زيارة سريعة مع العائلة إلى المدينة المنورة غرب السعودية لبضعة أيام، وكانت فرصة ممتاز للتصوير ولتسليم أحد الصور المطبوعة لأصحابها ولأنني كنت أبحث عن هذا الشخص معظم الوقت لم أقم إلا بإلتقاط بعض الصور أثناء ذلك.

Janbia a Traditional Wear in the South of Saudi Arabia

If you ever visited Najran city south of Saudi Arabia, it’s recommended to visit AlJanabi Market which is the largest market for selling & crafting Janbia in Saudi Arabia, it’s very traditional to the people from the old times to wear it in normal daily life, basically it’s daggers in different sizes but similar shape with a belt made for it, the prices for Janbia can be from 300 SR up to 20,000 SR in the market, but in some cases it can reach to 80,000 SR depending on how rare the materials used to made or how old it is, the quality depends on the handle, the blade and the gems or the engraving on it. It’s worth mention in addition to the South of Saudi Arabia Janbia is also well known in Yemen and some parts of Oman & UAE. These photos for different Janbia some are regular and some are really old & expensive.

إذا قمت بزيارة مدينة نجران في جنوب السعودية، من المستحسن زيارة سوق الجنابي والذي يعتبر أكبر سوق لصناعة وبيع الجنابي في السعودية وهي تعتبر من التقاليد المتعارف عليها منذ القدم وتلبس في الحياة اليومية بشكل عام. الجنبية بشكل بسيط عبارة عن خنجر بمختلف المقاسات ولكن متشابهة الأشكال ويكون معاه حزام مخصص له، أسعار الجنابي تتراوح ما بين ٣٠٠ ريال سعودي حتى ٢٠ ألف ريال سعودي في السوق، وفي بعض الأحيان بعضها يصل إلى ٨٠ ألف ريال سعودي إعتمادً على أمور عدة من ندرة المواد المصنوعة أو عمر الجنبية، الجودة تعتمد على عدة أمور بشكل رئيسي وهي القبضة، النصل، والأحجار الكريمة أو النقش. ومن الجدير ذكره أن بالإضافة إلى جنوب السعودية تشتهر الجنبية في دولة اليمن وبعض أجزاء دول عمان والإمارات العربية المتحدة. هذه المجموعة من الصور عبارة عدة جنبيات مختلفة البعض منها يعتبر عادي والبعض الآخر يعتبر نادر وثمين.

Cows in the South of Saudi Arabia

Seeing cows on the side roads of one of the valleys in South of Saudi Arabia is still really interesting to capture, if you saw sheep, goats or even camels that’s ok they are well known to be all around Saudi but seeing cows is something else as they can only live & walk in green lands therefore they can be seen out in the wild in these areas but never in most of parts of Saudi because of the desert nature. مشاهدة الأبقار على جانب الطريق في أحد الأودية في جنوب السعودية يبقى شيء مثير للاهتمام لتصويره، إذا رأيت الماعز، الخرفان أو حتى الإبل هذا شيء متعارف عليه ولكن رؤية الأبقار يعتبر شيء آخر حيث أنه من المعروف أنها لا تستطيع العيش أو المشي إلا في المناطق العشبية لذلك يمكن مشاهدتها في الغابات والأودية على جانب الطريق في جنوب السعودية بعكس بقية المناطق الصحراوية التي قد لا ترى على الاطلاق. هذه الصور من رحلة جنوب السعودية في أكتوبر ٢٠٢١ إضغط هنا لرؤية التدوينة كاملة.

Exploring Fifa mountains in Jazan

Hello all, I had 2 visits to Fifa mountains in Jazan Region during trips to the south of Saudi Arabia and each time I went there I had to go on without any guide, the streets in the mountains doesn’t tell you which way has the best view so I just randomly drove there early morning & capturing the views from the side road plus some usual photos of the streets, Fifa mountains is a district part of Jazan Region which is filled by residence houses all over the mountain in a unique way. Hopefully next time I’ll be in touch with someone before hand for better experience.

مرحبا بالجميع، كانت لدي زيارتين لجبال فيفا بمنطقة جازان ضمن رحلاتي لجنوب المملكة العربية السعودية وفي كل مرة أذهب هناك بدون أي مرشد أو شخص من المنطقة، لا توجد لوحات إرشادية تدلك على النقاط الجيدة للمناظر التي أبحث عنها لذا وبشكل عشوائي كنت أقود السيارة وأقوم بالتوقف والتصوير على جانب الطريق بالإضافة إلى تصوير الشوارع المعتاد، جبال فيفا هي محافظة تابعة لمنطقة جازان ويتميز الجبل بأنه ممتلئ بالمنازل والعمارات السكنية بشكل كثيف على مساحات كبيرة من الجبال. على أمل أن أتواصل مع أحدهم مسبقاً في الزيارة القادمة لتجربة أفضل.
