علي السلامي (أبو يحيى) في الستينيات من عمره يجلس في حي البادية في الدمام من بعد صلاة العصر إلى ما بعد المغرب في بيع بعض البضائع البسيطة على بساط الرصيف ومنها المسواك وهي قطعة تستخرج من نوع معين من الأشجار وتستخدم في تنظيف الأسنان والفم.
Ali AlSalami (Abu Yahya) in his 60s years old from AlBadiyah area in Dammam, Saudi Arabia sits down from the afternoon until sunset on the sidewalk selling a few merchandise including AlMiswak which is usually a small piece of wood taken out of a certain type of trees and used as a natural cleaner for the teeth & mouth.
يقول أبو يحيى أنه اعتاد منذ ٥ سنوات على هذه البسطة لكي يستطيع أن يسد انخفاض راتب التقاعد من التأمينات الإجتماعية الذي لا يكفيه له ولعياله، تقاعد من عمله كـ عامل في الميناء بعد مضي ١٨ سنة من الخدمة، تزوج أكثر من مرة ولديه من ١٢ ما بين إبن وإبنة والزوجة الأخيرة أنجبت له ٥ أبناء، أبو يحيى لا يزال يسكن في منزل على نظام التأجير أملاً بأن يستطيع أحد أبناءه بإمتلاك منزل خاص بهم في المستقبل.
Abu Yahya says that he’s used to sit here for over 5 years and sell what he can so he can manage to add more balance to his retirement paycheck which is not enough for him & his children, he retire from his work as worker in the Seaport after 18 years of service, he’s gotten married more then once and he have 12 children, the last wife which still there gave birth to 5 of them, Abu Yahya still lives in a rented house hoping one day one of his kids would own a house just for them.
مثل حال الكثير من المسنين الجالسين على أرصفة الشارع اعتاد أبويحيى بأن يجالسه ويحادثه بعض أصحابه وجيرانه من المسنين.
Like most of the old men where there found setting on the sidewalk other old men also join him for chatting & catching up.
