In continuing my project this is part 1 from Day 41 in Najran city located in the South Region in Saudi Arabia which I visited in my last trip for this Street Project. I spent a day & a half in Najran which was a mistake! I should have stayed 5 days at least, but still I got a lot of photos and stories around. In this post my first visit was the sheep market which is located south the city, not outside of it like most of the major cities nowadays, the market was just like the one I visit with my father 20 years ago here in Dammam, of course the people are way different. Here I’ll show you glimpse of the market the people who make their living from it.

اكمالاً لمشروعي هذا هو الجزء الأول من من اليوم ٤١ من مدينة نجران والتي تقع جنوب المملكة بالقرب من حدود الجمهورية اليمنية والتي قمت بزيارتها في رحلتي الأخيرة لتصوير مشروع حياة الشارع السعودي. لقد أمضيت هناك قرابة اليوم والنصف والتي كانت غلطة مني بحيث كنت أحتاج إلى قرابة ٥ أيام! ولكن مع ذلك استطعت الحصول على عدد جيد من الصور والقصص. في هذه التدوينة كانت زيارتي الأولى في المدينة في سوق الغنم المحلي والذي يقع جنوب المدينة وليس خارجها كما هو الحال في أغلب المدن الكبرى في المملكة، السوق يذكرني تماماً كما كنت أتجول مع والدي قبل ٢٠ سنة في سوق الغنم بالدمام سابقاً ولكن الناس هناك مختلفون بالتأكيد، سأعرض عليكم لمحات من هذا السوق ومن العاملين فيه والذين يكسبون رزقهم اليومي منه.

It was early afternoon, so in the way to the market I stopped by people selling in the sideway of the road under the hot sun, protecting their merchandise with what they got

كان الوقت مبكراً بعد الظهر لذا في الطريق إلى السوق توقفت عند بائعون على جانب الطريق، تحت أشعة الشمس الحارة يحمون بضائعهم بما لديهم

Arriving to the market, it was smaller then I thought, but filled with lots of kind of sheeps

عند وصولي للسوق لقد كان أصغر مما تصورت ولكن مليء بأنواع متعددة من الأغنام

Some sellers are gathering around, chatting and waiting for customers

بعض الباعة متجمعون هنا يتحادثون بانتظار الزبائن

 The cages which they keep the sheep inside are side to side and a little different one from another, depending on the owner and his care and focus for his sheep

الأحواش المسورة والتي تحفظ على الأغنام ملتصقة ببعضها البعض مع اختلافات بسيطة من واحدة إلى اخرى، يعتمد على مالكها واهتمامه بها

A kid who works here is delivering a sheep to the costumer’s car by carrying it on his shoulder, he says it’s much easier to do so then to drag it on the ground

صبي يعمل هنا يقوم بتوصيل أحد الأغنام إلى سيارة المشتري بحملها على كتفه، يقول أن هذه الطريقة أسهل بكثير من أن يقوم بسحبها من على الأرض

Another one has a group of sheep bringing them to the market to sell them

و اخر يحضر مجموعة من الأغنام للسوق ليبيعها جميعاً

 In the other side of the market for those people who don’t or can’t own a cage under the shade most use their car for their sheep to sell

وفي الناحية الاخرى من السوق هؤلاء الناس الذين لا يملكون أو لا يستطيعون امتلاك حوش من الأحواش تحت المظلات عليهم استخدام سياراتهم الخاصة لبيع الأغنام هنا

صور للأشخاص الذين يبيعون من سياراتهم، ونعم صورة ذلك الطفل هو أحدهم الذي يريد أن يكبر ليصبح مثلهم

Oh that one is not listening to it’s owner

وهذه لا تستمع إلى صاحبها

A lonely one for its owner under the car for the shade

وحيدة صاحبها تحت ظل السيارة بعيداً عن أشعة الشمس

As we are getting smaller, these people came with one or two to try their luck in selling the sheep in a good price

وهؤلاء الناس يأتون بعدد بسيط واحدة أو اثنتان ويحاولوا بيعها بسعر جيد

This car never gets old in my eyes, I see it everywhere and for everything !

هذه السيارة أراها في كل مكان ولكل شيء !

Beside the sheep market, there is of course the camel market! I didn’t walk around at that time because the time wasn’t great, but I did manage to get back in the early morning the next day and that’s a story for another time!

بجانب سوق الأغنام، بالطبع هناك سوق الأبل! لم أتجول هناك بسبب أن الوقت لم يكن مناسباُ والسوق شبه ميت، ولكن تمكنت من الذهاب في صباح اليوم التالي وتلك قصة سأنشرها في وقت لاحق!
