First of all I want to say what happened before I managed to capture this photos which wasn’t from the first attempt even if I calculated the right time & the right place there is one more important thing which is the weather condition, but even with those unsuccessful attempts there were more reasons which was the good equipments, lack of experience and the right time which only occurs once a month
بالبداية أود أن أقول ما حدث قبل عرض الصورة والتي لم تكن من المحاولة الأولى وحتى مع حساب وتقدير توقيت شروق القمر والتمركز في المكان الصحيح يوجد عنصر مهم جداً ألا وهو حالة الطقس، لكن حتى مع تلك المحاولات الغير ناجحة كانت هناك أسباب اخر ى منها المعدات وقلة الخبرة والتوقيت المناسب الذي لا يتكرر إلا مرة في الشهر
At first I bought a lens extender so I can double the focal length of my Canon EF 70-200mm F/2.8, the extender was from a cheap brand because I wanted to just try out this field of photography like capturing the sun & the moon, and did a couple of good shots from it which gives me 400mm focal length with the extender but with F/6.3
في البداية قمت بشراء اكستندر لكي أزيد من البعد البؤري للعدسة التي أمتلكها وهي كانون 70-200 مم، الاكستندر من النوع الرخيص لأني كنت أرغب بالتجربة في هذا المجال من التصوير وصورت عدة صور للشمس والتي تعطي بُعد بؤري 400 مم مع العدسة لكن بفتحة عدسة 6.3

First Attempt
This was my first attempt to capture the moon even though the timing was perfect & the weather condition was good but because of lack of experience resulted a shaky image plus the ambient lights didn’t help in post processing for the tower
The mistake I did was I’m supposed to at least try to capture the moon anywhere else at the same time so I can be familiar with the best settings, by the way I forgot to say that the time window is very very short just about 5 mins & the moon will be up high in the sky
كانت هذه أول محاولة على الاطلاق لتصوير القمر والصورة توقيتها أفضل ما يمكن وحالة الطقس جيدة ولكن لقلة الخبرة النتيجة كانت مهزوزة وايضاً اضاءة المكان لم تساعد حتى بعد محاولة انقاذ الامر بالمعالجة
الخطأ الي ارتكبته هو كان من المفترض التجربة مرة على الأقل للتصوير في هذا التوقيت في أي مكان، لكي أكون متعارف مع الاعدادات المناسبة، أوه بالمناسبة نسيت القول بأن الوقت جداً جداً ضيق أثناء الشروق، قرابة أقل من 5 دقائق والقمر يصبح بعيداً عن البرج
When I saw myself serious in this filed of photography I took one more step & searched for a good lens with a good price and ended up with this lens above, and of course went out to try this new lens because the focal length of 600mm is completely new to me
عندما رأيت جدية الأمر في نفسي لهذا المجال خطيت خطوة وبحثت عن عدسة مناسبة بسعر مناسب وقمت بشراء هذه العدسة الموضحة بالأعلى، وخرجت لتجربة العدسة بحكم البعد البؤري 600 مم جديد في منظوري وتجربتي كلياً

Second Attempt
The next month I wanted to try & photograph in different timing & had no idea what will happen, when the moon started to show up in very low contrast & up high I had to come back the day after but the weather wasn’t clear for couple of days
الشهر الذي يليه مباشرة أردت أن أقوم بالتصوير في وقت مختلف ومبكر ولم تكن لدي فكرة عن النتيجة، عندها ظهر القمر بتباين باهت جداً وعلى ارتفاع كبير وكان لابد علي الرجوع في اليوم الذي يليه ولكن مثلما ذكرت بأن حالة الطقس تحكم وضاعت الفرصة
Lights installed for the tower
About 6 months ago the municipality has did a renovation for the Island and part of that was installing lights for the tower like shown in the photo and this was one of the main problem of failing the first attempt, I found about this by coincidence which let me think to try again to capture the image I want but I had to wait for a good weather because it was summer & the humidity was high
قبل ما يقارب 6 شهور قامت الأمانة بعمل تطوير لجزيرة المرجان ومنها تركيب اضاءات للبرج كما في الصورة وهي كانت أحد المشاكل الأساسية في المحاولة الأولى، اكتشفت هالشيء مصادفة وهذا ما جعلني أعود للمحاولة من جديد وكان ذلك في الصيف والأجواء رطوبة وغير مناسبة
Third Attempt
Last month (August) because of the weather is getting better (the humidity makes the horizon not clear) I decided to try again & I forgot that the best time is when the moonrise after the sunset plus after the lights on the tower turned on, the attempt was a failure & wanted to go back the next day but my work in the company prevented that
الشهر الماضي (أغسطس) بمناسبة أن الأجواء تحسنت (الرطوبة تجعل الأفق غير واضح) قررت المحاولة من جديد وطبعاً نسيت أن أفضل وقت هو عندما يكون الشروق بعد مغيب الشمس وبعد تشغيل اضاءة البرج، فشلت المحاولة وقررت المعاودة باليوم التالي لكن ظروف العمل منعتني
Fourth Attempt
The next month (September) I decided to go out to photograph an idea for the Saudi National Day which includes the moon but it couldn’t be done, so I changed my plans & headed to Murjan Island to try my luck this time with the moon specially that the timing is perfect & the weather was super clear, I enjoyed the sunset & then got prepared to photograph the moon with the tower
الشهر الذي يليه مباشرة (سبتمبر) قررت الخروج لتصوير فكرة لليوم الوطني تتضمن القمر وكانت فكرة صعبة، للأسف الشديد العلم المفترض أن يتم تركيبه من الأمانة لم يتم تركيبه، شاءت الأقدار وتوجهت لجزيرة المرجان مباشرة لكي أجرب تصوير القمر من جديد خصوصاً أن التوقيت مثالي جداً وكانت الأجواء صافية للغاية، شاهدت غروب الشمس واستعددت لتصوير البرج مع القمر
To be honest I kept staring on the tower after the sunset because the moonrise will show up with very very low contrast & within minutes it will be high in the sky, I needed to be super ready to be in the right spot specially with the tripod
بلا مجاملة كنت مستمر في النظر إلى البرج بعد غروب الشمس لعشر دقائق لأن القمر سيظهر بشكل خافت وخلال دقائق سيرتفع، لكي أتمركز بالمكان الصحيح خصوصاً مع الحامل الثلاثي
The moon started to appear finally & without wasting a sec I started to go as low as I can on the rocks of the cournice & you can imagine how hard it is with little time & the tripod
ظهر القمر بشكل خافت جداً ومباشرة بدأت بالتمركز بالأسفل عند الصخور لكي أكون منخفض بأكثر ما يمكن، وطبعاً تستطيعون التخيل، صخور وحامل ثلاثي ووقت ضيق جداً
And Finally I’ve got it
12 min after sunset & 5 min after moonrise
