Hello all, today is the first post from Qatif, Eastern Province since 2014 in this blog, I went to AlKhamis market which is a weekly market held Saturday and just like many other weekly markets it starts after sunrise, AlKhamis is the pronunciation of the Arabic word for Thursday and because why they call it that & it’s been held in Saturday is that before in Saudi Arabia and for a long time the weekend was Thursday & Friday and back then it was held in Thursday, then it changes a few years ago to Friday & Saturday., so the name remains the same but in a different day. مرحبا جميعاً، اليوم أقوم بنشر تدوينة الاولى من القطيف بالمنطقة الشرقية منذ ٢٠١٤ في هذه المدونة، ذهبت إلى سوق الخميس وهو سوق شعبي أسبوعي يقام كل يوم السبت ومثل حال الأسواق الأسبوعية يبدأ السوق بعد شروق الشمس مباشرة، السبب في تسمية سوق الخميس بهذا الإسم هو أن سابقاً في السعودية ولمدة طويلة جداً كانت العطلة الأسبوعية يومي الخميس والجمعة وكان السوق يقام في يوم الخميس ولكن قبل بضعة سنوات فقط أصدر قرار بتغيير العطلة الأسبوعية لتصبح يوم الجمعة والسبت، لذا الاسم بقي على ما هو عليه ولكن اليوم تغير فقط. قمت بنشر بعض القصص في تدوينة في مدونتي الاخرى تستطيعون زيارتها من هنا.

Some of the old woman who still hand making theses traditional items which are made from palm trees leaves, this handcraft tradition goes way back in years and it’s popular in the Eastern Province in Qatif & ALHasa because it depends on Palm trees and it’s very famous here so people begun years ago into making different items that were used in daily life & some still being used by the local people. I think it deserved to be documented for more special details but this shot was taken from a distance because the woman their don’t appreciate the photographer
بعض كبار السن من النساء لا يزالون يصنعون الأغراض التقليدية التراثية بإستخدام ورق الخوص من النخيل وتسمى “صناعة الخوص” هذه الحرفة التقليدية بدأت قديماً وهي مشهورة في المنطقة الشرقية خصوصاً في القطيف والأحساء لأنها تعتمد كاملاً على النخيل وهي مشهورة بتواجدها في المنطقة لذا بدأ الناس بصناعة الخوص لصنع مختلف الأدوات والأغراض للاستخدام اليومي في الزمن الماضي ولا يزال البعض يستخدم بعض تلك الأدوات حتى الان. أعتقد أن هذا الموضوع يستحق توثيق خاص بشكل أكبر ولكن هذه الصور إلتقطت من مسافة بسبب أن النساء لا يقدرون تواجد المصور

Well, a foreign seller stands in the middle of his space surrounded by hundreds of colorful women’s underwear, this scene never get normal
مشهد لن يصبح عادياً مهما شاهدته، بائع أجنبي يقف وسط كومة ألوان من ملابس النساء الداخلية
There was a side where they are selling different kind of plants, you can find what you need here
وكان في أحد جوانب السوق قسم لبيع جميع أنواع النباتات والزهور وتستطيع أن تجد أي شيء تريده
And in a big open space there is one more reason for lots of people to come the market which is the birds market, including birds you can also find lots of kinds of pet animals here like cats, dogs or even monkeys. These are some of the sellers in the market
وفي مساحة كبيرة ومفتوحة يوجد سبب اخر لكثير من الناس لكي يقوموا بزيارة السوق وهو سوق الطيور، بالإضافة إلى الطيور يوجد بعض أنواع من الحيوانات الاليفة مثل القطط، الكلاب وأيضاً القردة. هؤلاء بعض الباعة المتواجدين في السوق
There some people who come and set up a small cafeteria for breakfast here in the middle of the birds market & because the weather is cold no ones mind them being there, I myself loved them being there
بعض الأشخاص يأتون هنا بطاولات صغيرة مثل الكافتيريا للإفطار في وسط سوق الطيور وبسبب أن الجو بارد لا يوجد أحد يمانع تواجدهم، أنا شخصياً أحب تواجدهم هناك
Men, women and children love to come to birds market
الرجال، النساء والأطفال يحبون زيارة سوق الطيور
